First European Edition of the Bastard Film Encounter on May 15th and 16th 2020 in Berne

Dear colleagues,

I hope this email finds you well.

We at the Lichtspiel / Kinemathek in Berne are excited to announce that we will hold the first European Edition of the Bastard Film Encounter on May 15th and 16th 2020 in Berne, Switzerland.

The Lichtspiel / Kinemathek Berne is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2020 and as an Institution focusing on orphaned, amateur and otherwise neglected works, it seemed the right time for us to look into the even more neglected, difficult, obscure or unpleasant „treasures“ in our collection and invite others to join in. These can be films you cannot officially show in public for one reason or another, films the archivist finds problematic or disturbing, strange items that are difficult to categorize or use, or just fun but strange ones that don't often see the light of a projector.

As usual the event is about watching films (mainly in their analogue form) with a strict, non-powerpoint, 5 Minute or less introduction. Open, honest, and lively discussion will happen after the viewing. We can project all common formats and often even the obscure ones. The event will be held in English.

So if you have something you always wanted to share but never dared to, this is the time, bring it to Berne! Send proposals with a short text about the work(s) you wish to present until 31.12.2019 to

This event is also part of the collaborative European Project Rhinédit (Amateure films of the Rhine region,
